TD Reflection: Here’s what’s Memorable about ‘Orcs Must Die! Unchained’ One Year Later
Many gamers find it hard to take up multiplayer tower defense games. No offense, social tower defense games are great, but they are not meant for everyone. However, there is a game that is still hip among players despite its multiplayer modes. One year down the line, Orcs Must Die! Unchained, the third installation of Robot Entertainment’s Orcs Must Die Series, remains a popular light-hearted Tower Defense game full of mystique and much-beloved action.
Still Worth the Money
Orcs Must Die! Unchained is a good but not great TD game as far as adventure is concerned. The free-to-play Robot Entertainment company production allows players to belong to groups of up to three. Each player must possess a different hero, each of which has different skills and abilities.
Winning the game involves earning enough points to get Level 12 for every skill, as well as lasting the longest against an onslaught of monsters. There is also the little expectation that the players can protect the magic core from the monsters. In certain modes, players can go on solo quests from the map, though their performance still influences that of the group. Players can also choose to take on other teams for Skulls (in-game currency) and skills. Another way for players to earn the currency and the subsequent upgrades within this game is to set traps. However, gamers can still bypass this entirely and buy upgrades using real-world money. Typically, gamers will use about $5 to $10 on tantalizing, instinctive power-ups within the game.
Getting through the more advanced levels of Orcs Must Die! Unchained is satisfyingly difficult, with increasingly aggressive monsters popping up at random. Between the amazing power-ups in this TD game and the difficulty of its higher levels, there is enough entertainment to make Orcs Must Die! Unchained one of the best tower defense games of the past year despite any of its drawbacks.
