Survival Arena Android Game Review Part 1 | TD Gaming

survival arena tower defense

2012 was a big year for tower defense in terms of mobile games. There’s a game called kingdom rush that came out and if you ever play on an iPad you know that year probably got you into tower defense for a little while. You definitely didn’t want to have to leave a level midway through, so you had to make sure you had enough time to at least get one level done. It was incredibly addictive. A lot of games since then have learned from this and made levels a lot shorter.

There’s a new game out called Survival Arena that has focused on this and offered extremely small bite-size versions of levels so that you don’t have to be worried about spending an entire hour on the level. This game is a bit complicated and it does have a very long tutorial. It basically walks along pretty slowly to start to get you used to all the mechanics of the game. The tutorials pretty good at going through everything so you know exactly what you’re doing.

Even after going through the tutorial, when it finally dumps you into the main game, well, that can be a bit crazy at first. There’s a lot of stuff going on. You have to learn how to navigate everything and the cluttered interface doesn’t really help you do that, but over time you’ll get better at it.

Think about tower defense. What you see in your mind? I usually see waves of enemies that are coming at me from every angle, and me frantically trying to stop them by scattering turrets and upgrades all over the map. As time goes on, those waves are sure to get a lot more complicated and a lot more aggressive. With every enemy I kill, my resources grow and I have more ability to defend and grow my army or my turret count.

Survival Arena is basically the same thing. Instead of the base, you have an extractor. However, the game sessions are not that long. You’ll have to repeat certain levels to complete certain things in the game. This gives you bonuses and ways that you’ll upgrades.

The game also has a focus on scoring. The amount of enemies you killed per level will add to your total score. It compares your scores to players around the world. Levels don’t really have a clear ending, so basically whoever has the best strategy will score the best and that’s how things are really compared from player to player.

The game gives you the same types of different flavors of turrets that you would expect to see a tower defense game. You got the regular cannons, you have mortars, you have ice cannons. These turrets can be upgraded to be useful for certain waves.

In order to upgrade stuff, you need to get the cards that are relevant to each weapon in the game and then use sky shards to complete the transaction in order to upgrade. This can also be a little bit difficult because the battles are so short you may not play for long enough to actually get the resources that you need to do the types of upgrades that you want to do.

There is a multiplayer option as well. Called the clan mode. Players from all over can get together and progress of the game and increase their ranks. You have a level in the game which is like a reputation level. You earn it by doing against other players. The interesting part of this is that you have to defend and attack at the same time to defeat your opponent.
